Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to Hutchinson Avenue shortly before 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, where there was a report of a disabled motorist near the intersection of Meadow Road at the Hutchinson River Parkway exit.
According to police, upon arrival, the officers found the BMW with “a large amount of fluid underneath the vehicle. While speaking with the driver, Bronx resident Jeremy Otero, who was able to provide his driver’s license, but failed to produce a valid vehicle registration and insurance card.
Police said that a computer check determined that the Pennsylvania license plate was registered to a different owner and vehicle type. Otero stated to officers that he recently purchased the vehicle and provided partial sales documentation and a Pennsylvania title for the vehicle, which was signed in his name.
Otero told officers that the man he purchased the car from allowed him to use the license plates until he could ascertain a proper registration. Officers then told Otero, “that the seller is not the same party as the registrant of the Pennsylvania license plate mounted on the car.
The BMW was towed to the Scarsdale Police Department impound lot and the license plate is currently being held by investigators. Otero was cited for driving an unregistered vehicle, having improper license plates and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
